Dreisbach and Dresbach Churches

The Reformed Church and the Dreisbach family have a long history together. St. Martin’s Reformed Church in Feudingen was where Simon Dreisbach and his family worshipped.

St. Martin’s Reformed Church in Raumland, was where Martin Dreisbach and his family gathered.

Simon Dreisbach Sr started a Reformed congregation in Lehigh Township, Northampton Co. PA. as early as 1748. A wooden church was built on land owned by Simon's son, Jost, and was called "the church at Jost's" or simply "the Dreisbach Church".

Later Simon Jr., Adam and Jost were some of the founders of Zion Stone United Church of Christ in Kreidersville, PA. The many small Reformed and Lutheran congregations could not support their own buildings and so joined together in "union churches" which shared one building, but where Reformed and Lutheran services were held on alternate weeks.

Martin Dreisbach, too, founded a church. He donated 7 acres of his land in Lewisburg, PA to build a Reformed church called "Dreisbach's Church".

Martin's grandson, Rev. John Dreisbach, became an itinerant minister and helped to found the Evangelical Association Church. He was instrumental in the founding of a church in Ohio after moving there in 1832. Many of Rev. John's descendants went on to become ministers and missionaries.

The Dresbach Church in Stoutsville, Ohio. This little church began its life as a United Brethren Church. The congregation was organized about 1820 and the present brick structure was built in 1828. It was erected on land donated by Jonathan and George Dresbach, grandsons of 1751 immigrant Martin Dreisbach.

Henry Dreisbach and his sons were influential in starting the Jerusalem Church in Almonte, Montgomery Co., PA.
