2001 Supplement to The Dreisbach Book has been retired.
The “2001 Supplement to The Dreisbach Book” was a digital version of the The Dreisbach Book which had been published in paperback in 1998. Both the book and the supplement are out of date and contain numerous errors. However there is much useful historical information in this supplement. Many additions and corrections to the database have been made since the book and supplement were produced. The current, and most correct, version of the DDFA genealogy is located at: https://ddfa.tribalpages.com/
If you are looking for genealogy information about your Dreisbach/Dresbach ancestor - please use the link above to visit DDFA Tribal Pages. We discourage using the database as found in the “2001 Supplement” but we believe it should remain available. You can download it here.
MAJOR CORRECTIONS to The Dreisbach Book and to the “2001 Supplement”
The wife of Jost Dreisbach (1720-1794, oldest son of Simon Dreisbach Sr) was Elizabeth Dieter (no dates known), NOT Elizabeth Rachenberger.
The line of “Mysterious” Henry Dreisbach (b. 1800, d. 1890 in Kreidersville, PA) has been identified as part of the Simon Dreisbach Sr. line. Simon Dreisbach Sr’s youngest son, John (b. 1735 in Wittgenstein, d. 1796 in Lehigh Township, Northampton County, PA) had a son, Henry Dreisbach (b. 1762 in Lehigh Twp, d. 1841 in Sparta, N.Y.). Henry had an illegitimate son with Eve Henrich. This son was born in 1800, died in 1890 and was buried at Zion Stone Church in Kreidersville, PA and was named Henry. He is the person who has been referred to as “Mysterious Henry Dreisbach”. To confuse matters even more, Henry (the father) had a legitimate son also named Henry (1791-1872) who lived in, and was buried in, Sparta, New York.
RECENT GENEALOGY DATABASE CORRECTION:
THE TWO CATHARINES AND THE TWO BAUMANS: The Dreisbach Book (pub. 1998) was compiled from genealogies sent by snail mail to the book editors. The entries were not vetted so there are errors. One of these concerns the marriage of two cousins named Catharine Dreisbach to two brothers named Bauman.
The information on page 70 is incorrect. Catharine, the daughter of Jost (1721-1794) married Bernard Bauman (1749-1821) NOT Henry Bauman as shown in The Dreisbach Book. The children of Catharine and Bernard Bauman are found on pp. 78 and 79.
On page 78, Catherine, the daughter of Adam (1722-1803) married Henrich Bauman (1751-1824) NOT Bernard Bauman as listed in The Dreisbach Book. Their children are found on pp. 70 and 71. The evidence for the correct wife/husband pair comes from the will of Elizabeth Dreisbach, the wife of Jost Dreisbach, in which the correct pairs are named.
D. Kline, A descendant of Adam Dreisbach through his daughter Catharine married to Henrich Bauman and through their son Henrich Bauman Jr married to Susanna Eberhart, has contributed a referenced list of their children, see below.
