NEW Dreisbach-Dresbach Family Genealogy Database

https://ddfa.tribalpages.com/

This is a new, revised and corrected genealogy database with over 36,000 names. It is color coded by small boxes beside the name to identify a relationship to one of the three Dreisbach immigrant patriarchs, Simon Dreisbach Sr (1743), Martin Dresbach (1751) and Henry Dreisbach (1754).  Descendants of Simon have small red boxes. Martin descendants have blue squares and Henry descendants have green squares.  The database has many ways to access information. Make sure to read the opening page on the website. Useful instructions are in a paragraph at the bottom of this page.

To search - type the name of the person in the search box at the upper right on the homepage. Choose a name from the drop-down menu. A page appears showing dates of birth and death (when known), information about spouses, etc. and a colored box to indicate which patriarch the person is descended from.

Unfortunately there are still errors in the database (although many are now corrected).

Report errors using the clickable link at the top of the database homepage. One pesky problem is that some people who lived before 1900 are shown as being "alive" and therefore will not be displayed. The problem arose when these names were added to a previous database using incomplete information. We are working to correct their status to "deceased" after which they become visible to a search.

Use this Tribal Pages database as a guide only. Do your own research to confirm the information you find here.

The Dreisbach database was compiled over many years by many people. Only some of the information is backed up by documentary evidence. It began with genealogy information sent to Bill Dreisbach and Jack Dreisbach in the early 1990’s, before general use of the internet. The information came on sheets of paper, often handwritten, and with no proof other than that “this is our family tree”. The accuracy of the information submitted was not verified. In 1998 a paper version of this accumulated information was published as The Dreisbach Book. It is out of print (for more information see “BOOKS” in the menu of this website). About this time, the database was put online with rootsweb which is now in archive status and cannot be amended.

Dreisbach Y-DNA and Dreisbach-Dresbach Autosomal DNA

Join the Dreisbach/Dresbach Surname Y-DNA Project

Project administrator: Rachel Meyer Contact: rachel.gen@twc.com

Who can join? All Dreisbach/Dresback/Trespach/Driesback/etc. MEN are welcome to join! This test is only for men because it looks at the DNA on the Y chromosome (and women do not have a Y chromosome!).

If you're a woman, or a man with a surname other than Dreisbach, we suggest you look into the Family Finder test on FTDNA and then upload your DNA file to GEDmatch.com. This is an autosomal DNA test which looks at portions of chromosomes 1 to 22 plus the X chromosome, which both women and men have. You can join the Dreisbach/Dresbach DNA project with Family Finder Results, but this is not the same test, nor does it provide the same results as the Y-DNA test for men. There are no reports that can be viewed by members of the group on FTDNA. However, if you are interested in participating in the Autosomal DNA Group on GEDmatch, please upload your results, then email your Kit Number and lineage to your Dreisbach / Dresbach / Dresback ancestor to Rachel Meyer. New reports are occasionally emailed to the participants.

How to join the Y-DNA Group on FTDNA.com - go to: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Dreisbach/

Fill in the form. At the bottom, where it says "Type of Test" go to the arrow on the right and scroll down.

Select the number of markers you want tested. Click on this number to highlight it. We suggest Y-67. The more markers, the more accurate the matches will be. 111 markers are even better, but the test is more expensive. FTDNA has sales periodically.

Click on "Continue" and you are done.

Your kit will be mailed to you. When you receive it, in the morning, before you have anything to eat or brush your teeth, swab the inside of your cheek to collect your DNA sample. Do this for two mornings. Send the kit back along with payment.

That's all there is to it!

REMEMBER TO USE THE Dreisbach / Dresbach SURNAME PROJECT SITE to sign up and place your order. Sometimes there is a 10% discount.

Encourage other male family members to take the DNA test. The more tests we have done, the more accurate the information.
